What is an easy small pet to care for?

I would like to know an easy, small, pet to care for.
I would also like to find something that it doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars to move… because I will be moving in a few months… I know it sounds crazy but I would really like a pet to keep me company… seeing as I will be moving, and am bad at making new friends, and will probably be alone for quite some while lol.
If there isn’t something that does cost a lot to move, but is still very easy to care for… I’d still like to hear about it… I’m willing to spend lots if I have to… but if it can be avoided, it’s always nice.
My family is allergic to cats
and my dad hates dogs :(
yes… I know it’s hard to find something with standards like these… but… I can at least try, right? lol

It sounds like you might like a pet that you can handle, one which is interested in you. Let’s begin with some common choices and save the best for last.

Fish are charming to look at but lack that interactive quality.

Finches are a delight of motion and sound. One can indeed feel that there are a couple of active, interactive (reactive) little friends about.

However,I strongly recommend this less-conventional pet. Those who have them swear by them. It requires a home similar to a hamster, is similar to but slightly larger than a hamster, but that is where the similarities stop. For example, when it is put on the ground, it runs to you, not away from you and under the fridge (dumb gerbils, etc). It likes to hang out with you, wants to be held and carried by you, likes to go out for rides with you and visit places. It is a domestic rat.

I know, it is a freaky idea to many. Just consider it for the sake of argument and go look at and even hold one at the pet store. The babies are darling, I think most people could argee.

And if you did buy one, you would buy a baby. That way, it grows up bonded to you and looks at you as its pack. As well, a female for a first rat might be a good idea. The females are smaller and cuter, and possibly a little more active. Genders can be distinguished quite early on.

Anothet great characteristics about rats that make them great pets is that they don’t always have to be in a cage. They commonly like to sit on your shoulder while you go about your business. Mine used to have free wander in whatever room we were in, and they used to go out with me on many errands (walking or car). My rats even came when I called.

They only live a few years (2-3) so they are also a low investment in terms of "pet longevity commitment".
