    mydogpercy please …
mydogpercy please dont tar all groomers with the same brush , i dont groom like the woman on the video shes either a trainee or not very good at handling the dog ,advise to others wanting to find a good groomer , ask friends to recomend , look on the pet care trust website for a groomer , make sure groomer has a city in guilds advanced dog grooming cert , not some mickey mouse diploma from the internet , and pop in the salon and watch her in action ( not your own dog )

My mom grooms better on a shih-tzu then the TRUE groomer! My mom is better by a long shot

  3. noodlesmadison Said,

    She is way too …
She is way too aggressive while handling the shih tzus front legs for armpit clipping. And the man holding the camera has NO idea what he’s talking about.

I would like to point out, just because I can, that she isn’t a groomer yet. She’s practicing to become one. She is not experienced enough (the way she brushes that poor dog is evidence of this).

My Shih Tzu is 10 …
My Shih Tzu is 10 and has only been to the groomer a couple of times in his entire life. I have been grooming him. It takes me a few hours so I spread it out over a couple of days. I trim his face and feet and nails shave his belly and potty path and then the next day we do a bath and retrim anything that needs a touch up. He loves it and just lies calmly. The key is to begin the daily grooming and then monthly as a puppy! It will then just naturally be a part of their life ans they love it.

    For hair to go …
For hair to go fluffy it needs to be a thick coat. You said it yourself straight and thin. Let her hair grow, she will be more beautiful. Apart from brushing please also comb your dog with a fine comb. And don’t forget to comb the underneath, like tummy and inside legs, under tail, and under ears. Also lift the feet, when combing them.
And go to a prof dog groomer and see what they do to feet, ear, tummy, genitals, nails. Tell her you want to let it grow, so they can just even it out.

    I’ve been grooming …
I’ve been grooming for 2 years and I’ve found that your nervousness about your own lack of experience makes the dogs nervous and they are more likely to behave. I went through the same thing and now that I’m more confident, it seems like most dogs behave. :) Just stay calm and confident. If you feel yourself or the dog getting stressed take him off the table and take a breather.

  16. remmysbane Said,

    Well, she was …
Well, she was holding firmly, but I don’t think she was being rough. Grooming scissors are extremely sharp-way sharper than household scissors. I’m a groomer and I know that my own scissors are sharp enough that if I run my thumb along the blade, it will cut me. It has to be that sharp for straight cuts. The dog has to be held firmly, tho not roughly, to prevent injury. Even the slightest movement could cause an accident and so I think she was just holding him the way she did to keep him still.

Yes I agree she was …
Yes I agree she was being a bit rough with this dog and he seemed to be getting a bit agitated by it. When a dog is misbehaving you need to be more firm but when I dog is being good like this one, a more gentle approach is the right way to go.
